The Ride of Life - Mechanical Cabaret Theatre Exhibition

Jan 9-Mar 28. Quirky and humorous mechanical cabaret theatre scene depicting a well-known Biblical passage (it was part of an attempt to build an elaborate 25,000 sq ft theme park in a shopping centre). Ron Fuller's Adam and Eve Pub was intended to be a cutting-edge landmark in the history of automata whenn designed and built for the fairground-style Ride of Life project at Sheffield's Meadowhall centre in the late 1980s. The title characters are the landlord and landlady, a rendition of the Bible story involving their namesakes. They are naked behind a bar - Eve's modesty is kept by cider pumps. A drunk city worker depicts the temptation element of the Genesis passage (he has drunk too much cider ) and the Serpent is portrayed by a lairy biker playing a fruit machine. Viewing Tue-Sat, 10-5pm. (NB: not suitable for children as there is a bad language content in the exhibition.)
